I performed an emergency appendectomy for a WellSense Health Plan patient 5/8/24. Probably saved the patient’s life. They paid $628. Reminds me of a plumber joke.

Came in at 6pm after a long day in clinic to do an emergency appendectomy 6/25/24 for my patient with Mass General Brigham Health Plan insurance. They paid $446. I wonder what a plumber costs at 6pm for an unplanned trip?

We saw a patient 3 weeks ago with Harvard Pilgrim insurance for a second opinion. Instead of paying they replied “This claim is administered through Health Plans, Inc.” and sent an address to a PO box. Want to bet they won’t pay because we didn’t file on time? Criminal behavior.
