Varina High School Oyster reef gets a boost with a makeshift protein skimmer

Students taking an active role in oyster reef tank water quality

After 16 days of battling high ammonia and many oyster casualties, well over 98% gone as of yesterday. I switched to a new larger tank with more filtration and better water circulation. As of yesterday afternoon at 430 there were only 12 or so remaining.

Tank update: pH 7.8, NH3/NH4 (ammonia) 0.50 ppm, NO3-(Nitrite) 0 ppm, salinity 1.06 g/ml. Tank clarity good. Ammonia doubled since Tuesday.
