A 3-year rotation is probably optimal for maintaining the bushy structure whilst ensuring plenty of flowering for the pollinators: cutting 1/3 of them every year rather than all of them every 3 years

This July, look out for the Agricultural Household Survey. Filling out the questions will help us to ensure decisions concerning the farming and crofting community are made with the best quality information possible.

Davy McCracken Also need to consider hill drains. I was astounded at the benefits Cora Cooper explained from peatland restoration (KMs of drain blocking) & fencing on blackloss at Tardoes farm. That story is undertold & lessons are being missed. nature.scot/doc/peatland-a… fwi.co.uk/events/awards/…

Thanks Davy McCracken for promoting our AHDB Beef & Lamb Fluke Guide! 👊A bit more academic, but you might find this systematic review from Aberystwyth University and Queen's University Belfast 🎓 of interest, specific mention of ~low fluke risk associated with genuine peatland! 🐌 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39623592/

Did you know that the most common tree you're likely to see in #ScotlandsRainforest is the birch? Often overlooked, these trees are important for wildlife, and there are actually three different species to look out for. Find out more buff.ly/X4FiCF3 📷 John MacPherson

A reminder to farmers that the eye in the sky is now capable of a lot in checking what goes on at ground level. Whilst 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 is not part of the EU, it does not preclude it from technological use. Can this help us measure agricultural actvity to better target support?
