This Danish-built commercial ship can transport US special forces, but cannot transport goods between US ports due to the Jones Act. Because national security.

I put the Trump Rx and MFN ideas in different categories. Trump Rx is a garden-variety, within-normal-parameters bad idea. If it provides value, the private sector will do it. If it doesn’t provide value, the government should not subsidize it.

The executive branch is very confident that the parts of the Constitution that protect them will hold as they tear apart the rest.

I started this event off by spending some time (perhaps too much!) discussing the history of the Jones Act’s impact on Hawaii. But I only scratched the surface. Here’s a more complete history of how this shipping law has hurt the islands 🧵

It absolutely baffles me that there's a seemingly popular meme in the tech and investing nexus that American capital markets aren't conducive to large-scale, physically intensive investment on technologies where the payoff is uncertain

It’s incredibly disappointing that the Department of Justice has denied my FOIA request and appeal. President Biden requested a report on how to create CBDC legislation, but the folks currently in charge have decided this information should be hidden from the public.

The centralization of government power over the past century was a giant mistake. It has made the nation subject to the whims, prejudices, and delusions of a small group of self-interested politicians. Centralization has benefited only them, not us. cato.org/blog/freeing-u…

If every individual taxpayer receives a $1K to $2K tariff rebate, it'll cost $160-$320 billion. Rs also want additional aid to farmers ($35-$50 billion). In FY26, tariffs might bring in ~$180 billion. Taken together, it's plausible that tariffs increase the deficit in FY26!

Occupational licensing boards don’t protect the public; they protect incumbents. Stacked with industry insiders, they block competition, raise prices, and hurt workers. The long term fix, says Stephen Slivinski, is to end licensing laws. The short term fix? End licensing boards.
