I've been sitting with the news that Scholastic is self-censoring their Book Fairs since Tuesday. On Thursday I was invited to speak at a Scholastic Graphix party, and this is what I said. It's an earnest plea for the company with whom I have made so many books to do better.

Three pitfalls to avoid when writing scary stories: Overusing exclamation points, overusing ellipses to drag things out, and overusing “suddenly” and “surprise” #writing #writingtips #kidlit #writingcommunity #MGlit #Yalit #newadultbooks #writingfiction

Edited a novel featuring high tech while amongst nature at the San Diego Zoo. This is at The Bridge, a lovely spot at one end the pedestrian Bashor Bridge, which spans 450 feet across the Panda Canyon. Amazing views of San Diego. #MobileEditingOffice

My latest read is the Call the Midwife trilogy. I’m a fan of the tv series and now of the books. The relationship between book and screen versions is a very pleasing one. I found the storytelling riveting and the audiobook narration just perfect.

I edited a New Adult novel this weekend under a tree next to the Balboa Park Carousel, created in 1910 and originally called the Herschell Spillman Carousel. #MobileEditingOffice

An eggnog toast! ✨3 weeks, 3 authors, 3 book deals… plus an author secured literary representation.✨ It’s happening, my bookmaking friends. Stay the course!

Gotta admit, "rizz" is wholly new to me. Per M-W: As a noun, rizz means “romantic appeal or charm” (as in “a bro who has rizz”); as a verb (typically used with up, as in “rizz up that cutie”) it means “to charm or seduce.” Internet-driven slang. Cool, cool.
