Powerful piece by Tim Winton on the deep despair that comes from seeing our elected leaders collaborate with planet-destroying fossil fuel corporations; and the urgency with which we must rise up and dismantle the fossil fuel order. A must-read. theguardian.com/environment/20…

Wow, when driving Canberra-Melbourne (& then Melbourne-Canberra & Canberra-Melbourne again) would have been faster than getting there via a Qantas flight! 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

Massive fees paid to consultants by universities, which have no experts on staff, apparently. $16 million would allow for a lot of casual conversions. Or keep whole disciplines in operation. A scandal of our times.

NSW’s native forest logging industry is bleeding money — $73M in losses over 4 years. Independent analysis find it’s 'not economically viable'. Time for Labor to deliver on its promise to end native forest logging & grow tourism-based economies. abc.net.au/news/2024-12-1…

A Creative Australia board that can’t defend its own arms-length processes is a board unworthy of the role. I’ve served proudly as a peer assessor (literature) & am appalled by the board’s interference in Venice Biennale. As a creative I have no confidence in this current board.

A reading of the proposed staff cuts in the ANU CASS confirms my impression that they are likely to affect women's academic employment most severely. Not only are many positions being cut at Levels B and C, some more senior positions being cut are also held by women.
