It has been a long journey for Jamie Yazzie's family. It began with her disappearance, then the search to bring her home to the discovery of her remains. After five long years, the family saw the man convicted of her murder get sentenced to life in prison. azmirror.com/2024/09/24/jus…

Navajo Code Talker John Kinsel, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home in Lukachukai. He was 107. In 2019, I was lucky enough to hear and share John Kinsel's story. I truly enjoyed the time I spent with him. He was a fantastic person, and I send my condolences to his family.

King Charles III faced backlash from Britain's colonial legacy after speaking in Australia's Parliament on Monday. "You are not our king," shouted Lidia Thorpe, an Indigenous senator and activist for Aboriginal rights. "Give us our land back." nyti.ms/3zWFzzd

I am listening to the Navajo Nation Council fall session. Earlier today, tribal President Buu Nygren informed delegates that he will miss the meeting. In an uncommon move, delegates approved tribal Vice President Richelle Montoya to give the state of the nation address.

My dad went to boarding school. I didn't know going into an interview with Sec. Haaland yesterday was going to result in me crying, but it did because, for the first time in history, a sitting U.S. president is set to apologize to Indigenous communities. azmirror.com/2024/10/24/we-…

Like Shondiin Silversmith⁷, I have a parent who went to boarding school. Shimá (my mom) went to schools in New Mexico and Arizona - both far from my grandparents’ home. Shí ♥️ bursted when Shondiin shared this update.

I thought about my dad all day. This was more than a presidential visit. It was a moment in history that many Indigenous people had never thought would happen. So much still needs to be done for Tribal Nations, but many recognize this step forward. azmirror.com/2024/10/25/too…

Tim Walz is in Window Rock, AZ today as the Harris Walz campaign stops on Navajo Nation. While driving here, I saw Trump supporters driving in Gallup with campaign flags attached to their vehicles. Here are some photos from what I’ve seen so far at this event.

Indigenous grassroots advocates recognize that working in Tribal communities is challenging. Building connections requires time & commitment, which is why Indivisible Tohono's civic engagement efforts continue beyond the election cycle. azmirror.com/2024/10/28/gra… via Arizona Mirror || bsky @azmirror.com

My 17-year-old, 6-foot Navajo son got his city bus pass last week. He's excited to use it. I was excited for him until I had to tell him why he needed to start carrying his Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB) in his wallet. azmirror.com/2025/01/24/rep…

A few months ago, I traveled the route that the uranium ore from the Pinyon Plain Mine near the Grand Canyon will travel along to the country's only operating uranium mill in Utah. Stories from that trip will publish every day this week. Here is the first: azmirror.com/2025/01/27/ura…
