It is difficult to describe the fork in the road that is looking at a clickbait thumbnail you just made and deciding to use it or not.

Did you know that NES Super Mario Bros. 3 received a software update for the USA the same year it launched? What did they change? We're going to find out! Calling this one "Behind the Code: Version Control." youtu.be/GOOlcSVU3p0

Here's your quarterly reminder that the Master System/MD/NES/SNES 256x224 mode and the MD 320x224 mode are the exact same size as output by the respective systems and the increase in horizontal resolution is achieved by simply drawing slimmer dots. Thinner slices of the same size

Hey if you’re interested in retro PCs and such, I created an account at the other place and leaned heavily into posting photos and giving updates on the stuff I am tweaking. displacedgamers.bsky.social (I’ll post about new videos there as well) Not leaving X. Just plugging it.

"It is too much for the NES to handle." This phrase is often used to explain lag on the platform, but it isn't very specific, is it? Many times, lag isn't due to the game's content but rather unoptimized code.

The Lua script/emulator overlay action for the next video will be insane. Trying not to get too carried away (too late)! Still have a lot of work to do.

Whenever homebrew for console X has people stating that they "didn't know console X could do that," it makes one consider the untapped potential of said hardware and what history's game library could have been for that platform.

Ever noticed that Metroid is rather laggy? Even just moving around the map can cause the frame rate to drop. Why? Let's find out! New Behind the Code dives into the Main Game Loop, builds a performance analysis tool, and gets down to business. youtu.be/3G6vkRz-_0I

What do you guys want to see in Part 2? "Change the code! Fix Metroid!" That's... not what I meant. Like what laggy areas of the game do you want to see analyzed?

NES Mother Brain chamber running at full speed while playing with a wireless keyboard is KINDA difficult. Also - I swear I was jogging in place at one point due to some bizarre moment of additive knockback. Sound subroutine was disabled at the time, so that may have done it.
