Like everyone else in the music world, I am so sad to hear about the departure of Alfred Brendel. He was a beacon of civilisation, a deeply cultured man who loved music passionately, shared that love widely and never compromised artistically or personally. He will be much missed.

This was exceptional. Henrik Sandås joined BBC Concert Orchestra and me on stage at the Queen Elizabeth Hall for music by Sibelius and Finland's national dance craze, the tango. Henrik blowing us away with his playing of Piazzolla's music. It was BBC Radio 3, now BBC Sounds. Worth seeking out.
