On a chilly 1944 6th June morning - DDAY - the campaign began in earnest to restore democracy across Western Europe. We must not forget the lessons of history. Democracy is precious and we are simply grateful to all who put their lives at risk and defend democracy.

Only 10 days after the 4thJuly Election we were out in Elworth, Cheshire supporting Colin Storey our candidate for the Town Council election on 22Aug 2024. People were happy to talk about issues including bus/rail transport & keeping green spaces tidy. All politics is local.

Joe Biden has been one of America’s most consequential presidents, as well as a dear friend and partner to me. Today, we’ve also been reminded – again – that he’s a patriot of the highest order. Here’s my full statement: barackobama.medium.com/my-statement-o…

President Biden will not be standing to be next President of the USA. He has done a great job for America–more jobs, better social care provision, economy coming back first after COVID-19 and economic growth to fund the future. He is a decent guy who has  done a fantastic job

Let us hope that the roadmap to compromise and an end to the conflict in Gaza can somehow be secured this week. The distance from Jerusalem to Gaza City, separated by so much misunderstanding is just 59 miles, the same distance from Croydon to Watford (UK) in light traffic.

I found a cricket match under a rainbow in the far west of Cumbria. Cricket like all sports has the potential to unite people across a nation and bring people together across the world. There are many rules and fair play is paramount. Generally dictators don’t play cricket

Celebrating World Peace Day. Our lives are all that we have. This planet isall that we have. With no hospitable places within easy reach, it is the responsibility of governments to protect our planet & ensure that our lives are not prematurely stopped by a drone/missile/bullet.

WorldMentalHealthDay: In 2024 where in civilians are being traumatised every day by war, we must work to find reconciliation not just in conflict zones but also in our own lives. Just asking someone how they are and giving them a smile can make all the difference to someone’s day

Today Parliament votes on whether doctors in the UK will be able-knowingly to prescribe a lethal medication dose. That means changing the role of a doctor from that of exclusively healer to someone who might also take life away. We need to keep trust in doctors, not take it away

A Happy New to all of you, if you do let off fireworks please be careful (A&E is busy enough as it is) and if you can afford to spend money on fireworks or to go up in smoke, maybe you can also spend some money on charities, food banks and homeless charities need support!

We mark 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, let us never forget and let fascism not ever find fertile soil again, racism has no place anywhere, there is just one human race. If we don’t learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it!

VE Day 8 May 2025 Across this spring day 8 May and across our land we have marked the end of the Second World War in Europe and celebrated the peace that came after - for most on this continent. We all have a duty to defend that peace going forward
