#NormanNorell serves us a joy of an ensemble… the 1958 Subway coat with its hidden sequinned lining. This #frockingfabulous bit of #fashionhistory is a joy! Via the Met.

The Museum of the City of New York has an awesome new exhibition on Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman in Congress and first to run for President. She’d be 100 this year. I’m a trained guide at the museum so don’t hesitate to reach out if you’d like a tour. It’s very timely!

Something to ponder as you head out to vote today, for free. In the Library's Rosa Parks Papers collection, there's a receipt for the poll tax she had to pay to vote in Alabama in 1956. Poll taxes, a Jim Crow-era voter suppression tool, were not abolished federally until 1964.

As New York City’s backyard, Central Park is here to provide peaceful relaxation and a respite from city life, for all to enjoy. So, take a deep breath, and decompress with 40 seconds of zen in Central Park. 🌀

I’ll be both supporting women’s reproductive rights in the US today (obviously I can’t vote) and sending money to UNRWA.

‘I was invited to make a piece of work about the First World War. I had always wanted to go to the poppy factory in Richmond, London. Artificial poppies have been made there since 1922. When I visited the factory, I saw this machine that had rolls of red paper with perforations

In Oct 2018 I was on a research trip to Vincennes in Paris. They’d just opened an exhibition for the end of the #FWW centenary which included their signed copy of the armistice agreement from 11th Nov 1918. I never imagined I’d ever see it & found it strangely emotional.

Strange experience getting off the plane at Heathrow and immediately hearing the Last Post and everyone rushing to passport control suddenly stopping in their tracks. Never seen the Two Minutes’ Silence in an airport before.

“The city seen from the Queensboro Bridge is always the city seen for the first time.” An archivist at the Seamen's Church Institute tells me that Scott would probably have had an uninterrupted view of the Green Light Tower as he passed along the bridge from Great Neck via Queens
