The word "text" has the root meaning of weaving, as in "textile." When we write, we weave--past, present. and future; formal and informal; story and argument; mixing genres and even media. Nothing is ever one thing.

Independent reading is not about a level; it’s not about a certain number of minutes. Independent reading is that reading we do that helps us develop independent thoughts - not thoughts directed by anyone else.
