Reminder that this happened last year at the ISA and since then the ISA has done absolutely NOTHING (not even a statement) to address this. That’s why we need #BDSatISA

An update on yesterday's motion at the ISA Council: ISA leadership shamefully derailed proceedings to prevent any form of democratic discussion on Palestine. Imperialism in motion! 🧵

Read this 🧵 This is after more than a year of ISA stonewalling all attempts by the Academic Freedom Committee (AFC) to show solidarity with Palestinians facing genocide & colleagues facing attacks on college campuses. Most of the AFC eventually resigned, including the chair

Truly a shitshow to hear the BDS@ISA motion did not go forward. For years I've heard from the top that ISA can't/won't put forward political statements, but then in January a statement about threats to academic freedom in Texas went out. Like, way to reify which politics matter.

As a scholar of apartheid-South African history, I know a liberal washing conference when I see one and understand the importance of solidarity with the oppressed and the power of boycotts docs.craft.do/d/ec0d26eb-c13…

I offer my deep condolences to the family, friends and fellow activists of Imam Muhsin Hendricks whose life was brutally ended by gunmen in Gqeberha this past weekend. While we await the outcome of investigations, I am concerned about the reported likelihood of this being a hate

😕queer theorist here, confused by email from the Executive Director of ISA attempting to justify why a motion on BDS was not brought to vote 🧵

Centring Israeli voices - no matter how liberal or feminist - during an ongoing genocide in which Israeli universities are participating, whilst silencing solidarity with Palestinian scholars is a terrible act of epistemic violence by ISA
