I'm so proud of Nicholas Card and our co-authors. We've empowered a man with ALS to communicate with loved ones and maintain his livelihood despite severe paralysis.

This podcast points out some of the difficulties faced by people living with ALS. It also highlights how a person living with paralysis can use a BCI to communicate with friends, family, and care partners. The impact of disease on care-partners is often under-appreciated!

I couldn't ask for a more thoughtful or technically skilled colleague. Dr. Sharma is an outstanding surgeon, and is passionate about helping families living with epilepsy.

At #SfN24 our lab will be presenting updates on building multi-functional intracortical speech neuroprostheses and understanding the cortical basis of speech and movement. The whole lab including David Brandman and I will be there!

I'm really excited about this work, since Tyler expands on rapid decoder calibration I explored in my PhD thesis. His approach allowed a man living with ALS to control a computer cursor with his thoughts within seconds.

Incredible to see our speech neuroprosthesis research featured as one of many wonderful applications of the AI that Sompolinsky, Abbott, and Sejnowski helped develop (starting ~23 min in) 🎬:
