Great little conversation on monopoly (and trust)! Apparently my usual approach is not optimum for victory (whatever that means in the context of the who I am playing against the dynamics of the game).

I am looking for reading recommendations on how ambassador/diplomats/other governmental officials shape the views of decision-makers. Ideally, theoretically-focused pieces but any empirical studies would also be welcome.

Glad to be part of this first virtual conference by BISA - British International Studies Association where I will be presenting a piece of co-authored work-in-progress on interpersonal interactions and trust/distrust.

We had an insightful discussion on the opportunities and challenges facing us as IR scholars when it comes to policy engagement and impact. It was a great opportunity for us to share experiences and learn from one another as we seek to share our research as broadly as possible.

Looking forward to being involved in this workshop alongside Giuditta Fontana. There is still time to sign-up if you are interested in exploring the possibilities of using LEGO in your teaching.

Slowly making my way through this fascinating report out from the RAND Corporation. Definitely worth a read. Of the many interesting things to note, there is a section on what the UK can contribute to the way forward. rand.org/pubs/research_…

Final preparations for #ISA2025. It will be my first trip to the US since 2022 (and second overall). Organising my schedule is proving difficult as there are so many excellent panels and roundtables. Spoilt for choice! These in particular look interesting - I am very biased.

theconversation.com/ukraine-war-wh… A belated sharing of my first article with the Conversation. Given everything that has happened since it was published, I cannot quite work out if it is more or less relevant than two weeks ago.

Looking forward to presenting some co-authored work with Giuditta Fontana on using #LEGO in teaching at #PSA2025. If you are around and interested in the idea of using interlocking plastic bricks in your own teaching, come along and hear what we did and what we learned!

This was a great event. All four of our speakers have made excellent contributions to Trust Research in International Relations so it was fascinating to hear the discussion between them on the impact of Andrew Kydd's work specifically but also on contemporary events. Looking forward to presenting my co-author projects with Scott Edwards (on Track II diplomacy and trust) and with Carol Buxton (on Space and trust).

I will be presenting at #BISA2025 on a recent project with Giuditta Fontana (POLSIS Birmingham), examining the use of LEGO in teaching complex and challenging topics, funded by Government Bham. If you are thinking of using LEGO yourself or are merely curious, you should come along.

Really great to see Nicholas Wheeler Chiara Cervasio and Mark Saunders's work on it's way to publication. How leaders can move from distrust to trust to engage in the type of effective diplomacy needed to resolve conflict is vital, so this work is much needed.
