New paper out today where we test the 150-year-old hypothesis that a unique jaw torus seen in Nimravus is an adaptation to resist biting forces using FEA🦁🔪 our results highlight some functional advantage of the torus, which are amplified at larger gape👀 royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…

Thank you to all who came to our World Anatomy Day Event at the Grant Museum of Zoology. We received 381 visitors (341 adults and 40 children); for comparison, a typical Saturday at the Grant Museum has about 230 visitors. Everyone seems to have discovered that #Anatomy is indeed Amazing!

New work on crocodylian locomotor evolution led by Masaya Iijima, w/Richard Blob! More erect hindlimb postures help extant gators support their weight (esp. at ankle), & how these mechanics constrained giant Deinosuchus to a slow walk at best! The paper-- science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
