CRISPR-armed phages are heading for clinical trial! In case you missed this piece out earlier this year, catch up now with this News and Views rdcu.be/deltw in Nature Microbiology by Antonia Sagona and I before checking out of the full work.

Up now is our fantastic #ECR awards presentations, sponsored by FEMS! Our 1st speaker is Emily Gulliver from CiiiD Hudson presenting on functional #genomics & phenotypic #AMR in the gut #microbiome, with her amazing phylogenetic trees! #ASM2023

Jeremy J Barr Sofia Dahlman Ciaren 🧬 Dinesh Subedi Chris Turkington Juris Grasis Rob Edwards Great to be part of this exciting work from Sofia Dahlman undertaking experimental validation of #phage in the gut #microbiome. An Australian Research Council funded collaboration with Jeremy J Barr and many others. Forster Lab Remy Young Emily Gulliver CiiiD Hudson Hudson Institute of Medical Research

Emily Gulliver & the team's findings, published in the Journal of Functional Foods, are exploring how sulforaphane (present in cruciferous vegetables like broccoli & cauliflower) can change bacteria in the #Gut🦠 ➡️ bit.ly/45g0cRl (We love Dr Gulliver's earrings🧪🧑🏽🔬)

Congrats to new group leader Vanessa Marcelino and Sam Forster for leading this new paper in Nature Communications: nature.com/articles/s4146… We show reduced metabolic redundancy in human gut microbiota is linked to multiple disease states. Hydrogen sulfide cycling especially important.

A paper in Nature Communications presents a metabolite-exchange scoring system, designed to identify the potential microbial cross-feeding interactions in the human gut most affected in human diseases. go.nature.com/3SdWPGE

And finally the last talk at #lorneiandi is from Emily Gulliver of Forster Lab on her work identifying novel anti-microbial resistance genes within the gut microbiome!

Congratulations to Emily Gulliver from Forster Lab on winning best ECR talk and Nur Sarah Rosli from Tate_Lab for winning best student poster at #lorneiandi! What a great meeting which showcased so much of the exciting research ongoing here at CiiiD & Hudson Institute of Medical Research ! 👏

We next have Sara Di Simone from CiiiD Hudson talking about her research on early life human microbiome

Also a big congratulations to Nancy Millis runner up Sara Di Simone from the Hudson Institute of Medical Research as well as the ASM VIC Branch award winner Georgie Gilmore from Monash University for their amazing presentations!
