That’s much more useful. It’s time to recognise that many, many strokes don’t result in the signs demonstrated by ā€˜FAST’ and therefore many go unrecognised.

Great talk by Sue Wilkinson at Cumbria Uni English Ambleside this evening on The Grasmere Dialect Plays. Well done too to Lakeland Dialect Society members who acted scenes from the plays - & of course Dr Penny Bradshaw for organising it all!

Thank you to our brilliant MA graduate Sue Wilkinson for sharing the in-depth research she undertook for her MA Dissertation on the Grasmere Dialect Plays this evening. Having the plays also brought to life for us with readings by members of the Lakeland Dialect Society was wonderful!

I’m going to be at The Force cafe signing books and sketching on 11th & 18th December so if you’re in Ambleside head up and say hello 😃

My first birthday since my Mum died in August. Strange feelings. Made all the stranger by the fact that somehow the little girl in the photo is now eligible for free prescriptions & can buy a senior rail card. Anyway, greatly looking forward to a meal with friends tonight.

I'm appalled that the B-listed Africa House in Ardeer, one of the last surviving buildings of Glasgow's 1938 Empire Exhibition, has just been illegally demolished. No listed building consent. The owner has likely committed a criminal offence. They should be forced to rebuild it.

We found out tonight why Jane Austen's heroines generally avoid the outdoors: the risks of rain, falling over, &/or encountering a 'charming scoundrel'. Many thanks to Michael Greaney for an erudite and highly entertaining talk! Cumbria Uni English Dr Penny Bradshaw

Great chat by the dynamic duo Alan Cleaver and Mark Richards this evening at Bookends Carlisle www.bookscumbria.com discussing Alan’s new book about posties’ paths, featuring Mark’s exquisite line drawings. Sure to be a good read.
