>16,000 Americans have died of #flu since October. Flu #vaccines are not perfect, but they provide very good protection from illness, hospitalization & death. It is not too late to get your flu shot! And have a plan to get anti-viral medicines if you do become infected. HHS.gov

Good question to me... YES, young children can get the flu and even die from it. As a pediatric ICU doctor, I treated children with flu in my ICU every year - many desperately ill. And YES, children should also receive annual flu vaccines. It is NOT too late....

If you have symptoms of the #flu, it is important to be diagnosed quickly. Anti-viral medicines work best when started within the first 2 days of symptoms. bit.ly/3X8Ic98

Data will soon be out for this year, but generally 50-70% protection against illness, hospitalization and death. Not perfect, but a good investment. That is why having a plan for anti-viral medicines is also important especially if you are at high risk

Facts: The Texas #measlesoutbreak is occurring because of unvaccinated children. It is 100% due to wild type measles virus, and NOT the vaccine. I empathize with all parents who are struggling with vaccine misinformation. Please talk to your doc or pharmacist!

Thank you Robert F. Kennedy Jr. 2024 for emphasizing the critical importance of #Measles vaccination and the need for education & compassion to parents. But please do not rely on #VitaminA to save your child in the US - helps in Africa where there is deficiency-not here. I have both treated

So Vinay Prasad MD MPH do you want to contribute to the solutions, or just be the right wing Ashish K. Jha, MD, MPH ? I have invited you to be part of the solution, multiply, but you seem comfortable as a spectator and have not replied. I hope this is a communication failure.

Brett Giroir (@drgiroir) 's Twitter Profile Photo

OK Dan Diamond challenged me. To be clear, I am asking if Vinay Prasad MD MPH is another little academic dweeb, or actually wants to contribute. I hope he does, because i believe he is the most incisive scientific mind i have ever seen. But spectating is a cop out. We will see...

I worked closely with CDC Director Dr. Monarez during the transition & found her brilliant, data-driven, non-partisan, and passionate to rebuild #cdc into a national treasure. My congratulations to Donald J. Trump and Secretary Kennedy for making this nomination. Nothing but net!

I also want to affirm my admiration for Michael Burgess, MD. America still needs his leadership. Against all odds, he channeled his passion to care for the underserved learned Parkland Health into support for our #sicklecellanemia global agenda. ASH Sick Cells Shamonica Wiggins Mayes

Measles is one of the most contagious diseases known to humankind; it spreads through the air and can cause serious illness and even death in those who are not vaccinated. Please see my op-ed on this important issue. bit.ly/3DSJajO HHS.gov CDC Global Virus Network

I fully concur with this policy. It will accelerate development of medicines for people in need, and eliminate animal testing that provides limited additional information in this specific context.

In 2019, we began a historic initiative to End the HIV Epidemic in America. Given our progress, now is the time to intensify our efforts - not cancel them. Eliminating HIV is a new but fully achievable "moonshot" that should unify our nation. bit.ly/3GBlwJe HHS.gov

I am honored to announce that Dr. Kate Knobil, former chief medical officer GSK, has joined Altesa BioSciences to lead the advanced clinical development of vapendavir (an oral anti-viral medicine) for treating respiratory infections in people living with lung diseases like #COPD

Thanks to Fox News for inviting me to discuss the critical importance of testing vaccines, but also their essential role in protecting health especially for children. Parents should absolutely do research & the 1st stop should be their pediatrician, family doc or pharmacist

In 2019, Sec Azar and I issued an PREP Act amendment enabling pharmacists to administer childhood vaccines to those >3 years old. This vastly increased access during COVID-19. Pharmacists remain front line health care professionals key to making Americans healthy again NACDS
