This is unacceptable. Surgical presentations can be very difficult to diagnose, particularly in children. After just 3 months with "intensive training" and then "going solo," raises many questions and is frankly nothing to be proud of. Governance? Risk analysis?

It’s not doctors vote though is it. It’s the entire medical profession, BMA, RCGP, RCoA, RCS, RCPaeds, RCP soon to declare, etc, etc, etc. I’m not sure how the profession could possibly make it any clearer: we do not want or need associates. Denying reality won’t change it.

I will write more fully on this shortly - but this is a breathtaking abdication of responsibility by the UK’s medical regulator. This is mass medical deregulation - the GMC literally saying PAs can do whatever they want if their local employer says they can. An NHS scandal.
