Views over & within the #Roman-German battlefield at the Oberesch, #Kalkriese (Germany) - likely the site of the final stages of the AD 9 Battle of the Teutoburg, or 'Varus Disaster' - during a period where it was being excavated #RomanSiteSaturday

A #Roman glass bowl, in a beautiful shade of cobalt blue, with vertical ridges all around the outside. It was made about 2000 years ago & ended up in Nijmegen (Netherlands); it was excavated a few years ago in pristine condition #Archaeology #RomanArchaeology #AncientGlass

The Roman Aqueduct-Bridge of Pont d'Ael in the Aosta Valley, north western Italy. The bridge was constructed in 3 BC to supply water to Augusta Praetoria (modern day Aosta) - a colony founded by Augustus in 25 BC. 📸 My own. #RomanSiteSaturday

A small wooden #Roman sword - from the size of it, probably a toy rather than a practice weapon, maybe something given to a soldier's child. Found in London, it is easy to imagine a child playing with it some 1600-2000 years ago #Archaeology #RomanArchaeology

Gustav Klimt would have *loved* this gold band glass alabastron. It was achieved by sandwiching gold leaf between layers of colorless glass, creating a luxury perfume flask for the wealthy Roman patrician class. 1/ #GettyVilla 📸 me

A beautiful #Roman ridged glass bowl, made from cobalt blue with an irregular marbled white swirling pattern. It was made about 2000 years ago, & is a stunning piece of #AncientGlass that I wish I owned... (📷MFA Boston) collections.mfa.org/objects/154808…

A new AI tool developed to fill in the blanks on partial #Roman inscriptions - used properly this could be great for the field, but I hope it doesn't mean that we stop exploring the inscriptions ourselves... theguardian.com/science/2025/j…

A lovely little bronze #Roman mouse figurine, shown holding a morsel of food in his little front paws (a nut or seed maybe?), perhaps about to take a little nibble from it. It is about 1900-2000 years old 🐭 (📷 Christie's) #Archaeology #RomanArchaeology

Lilia pits at Rough Castle Roman Fort on the Antonine Wall, near Bonnybridge in central Scotland. The pits were a defensive measure (each pit contained a sharpened stake) that would have helped defend the northern approach to the fort. 📸 My own. #RomanFortThursday

A Roman amulet, created from a small trilobite fossil, was unearthed at the Roman-era site of A Cibdá de Armea in Spain. Analysis shows it had been purposefully modified for likely use as a pendant (or bracelet) or was placed on a domestic altar as an offering.
