Interesting ... what big political thing happened in 2010? I seem to remember something in May (other than my 18th birthday, which I do not remember)

Omg, right? It would be utterly ridiculous for a government to ensure that everyone had access to food. Where next? Water, education, and housing? Totally crazy idea. How are those UBI/UBS trials going? Horribly and everyone hates it I'd bet?

What's more concerning is that neither community say what the reality is: "the researcher says" Data and models don't say anything without our construction and interpretation.

Depoliticise science, *after* we spent all that time 'Following the science' during Covid? So the covid response was political? Or are we just allowed to pick and choose which bits of science are political and which aren't? Because that sounds to me like a political choice

Seconded! Particularly for pandemic TTXs that dont have open-ended outcomes based on participants decisions (*cough cough* a lot of them).

Thankful to UK Delegation to the OPCW for inviting me and Dr Alexander Ghionis to present our SPRU work on AI risks to wider OPCW delegates. Our work refocuses attention to actors making and using AI tools, rather than AI itself. More info here: hsp.sussex.ac.uk/new/what-we-do…

No, not 💯 Elon. In the U.K. they’re not going round ‘finding people who’ve said something they disagree with and putting them in a f—king cage.’ Some people are being charged for inciting racial hatred and for organising acts of violence. It’s very specific, and it’s the law in

This is a great thread. I would add, however, that AI's impact is not limited to acquisition. A key point of our HSP work is that our focus should also be strengthening the information environment, investigative capabilities, and all-hazards preparedness: hsp.sussex.ac.uk/new/what-we-do…
