July 1st- it’s a new year for GME programs across the U.S. As UC Irvine Hem/Onc fellowship Program Director, it’s a tradition to host a welcome party at our house 7/1. This year featured not only Hem/Onc fellows but also Rad Onc residents along w/faculty, friends and family.

At UC Irvine’s Hem/Onc fellowship program, the future is female! This week we welcomed the class of 2026 to our program who (after 1-week orientation) are ready to hit the ground running. Pic taken outside the Anatomy Lab where we completed our bone marrow bx simulation course.

ATOMIC clinical trial results presented just now ASCO annual meeting by my esteemed colleague Frank Sinicrope, MD. And just like that: a new standard is set for immune checkpoint inhibition (atezolizumab) in combination with chemo (FOLFOX) for MSI-H stage III colon cancer.

#matterhorn trial ASCO meets its primary endpoint: durvalumab IO therapy + FLOT improves EFS vs FLOT chemo in peri-operative gastric cancer. Congratulations to Yelena Y. Janjigian MD and her global team. “D-FLOT” (moniker coined by discussant Sam Klempner) is now SOC.
