Patient choice is determined by convenience of travel, proximity for family and friends to visit when in-patient, hospital providing that service and ease of patient clinical journey. GPs do offer choice but cannot change these factors.

What will make this scheme impactful will be ease of contacting consultants, access to investigations,community expertise and services to look after those conditions. Real drivers of success will be primary care estate and workforce investment. theguardian.com/society/2025/j…

So GPs will be given direct access to MRI scans, CT scans, Colonoscopies, angiography ., etc ? What improves outcomes is not management control or talk but clinical thinking and decision making. GPs don’t need guidance, they need time to look after the patients !
