Want to find a handy list of some of the women who were members of the Glasgow Society of Lady Artists? Fear not as I complied a (simplified) list a few years ago. It can be found here on the Glasgow City Council libcat.csglasgow.org/web/arena/glas…

It’s been less than a hundred years since women in Britain have had the right to vote. This Manchester banner was unfurled in 1903 - it would be 25 years before the suffragettes’ dream was finally realised. Make sure you use that hard-won right today!

In the novel Fahrenheit 451, the abolition of reading began with tech companies simplifying books into summaries that you could read in five minutes. Because people no longer engaged with the texts, they forgot how to think. Then came the book-burnings.

Hugely enjoyed visiting the Kimono exhibition V&A Dundee recently. The exhibition design is as serene as it is beautiful and there are so many gorgeous and interesting objects on display. I didn’t know much at all about Kimonos so I learnt a great deal!

Got a new website! I’ve started to add some of my research from the last couple of years including biographies of women associated with the Glasgow Society of Lady Artists. It is searchable & I will be adding more info over the coming months! Check it out: karenmailley.com

Had a great time visiting the newly refurbished Perth Art Gallery, the Fergus & Meg exhibition is a particular highlight. Margaret Morris was such a fabulously interesting pioneer, and her relationship with John Duncan Fergusson was shown to be a joyful creative partnership.

Word of the day is ‘hibernacle’ (18th century): a place to which an animal/human can retreat entirely for the winter months.
