Trump denying 400m to Columbia IS NOT about antisemitism and will only harm Jews. We are being used as an excuse to punish a liberal university. This is just another version of scapegoating Jews in support of fascism. Do not misinterpret this as caring about antisemitism

Defunding higher education and disappearing activists to crush political dissent are telltale signs of fascism. Once again, Jews are being weaponized as scapegoats for fascists, only this time under the guise of countering antisemitism.

“Abducting Mahmoud Khalil and tearing him away from his family is an affront to freedom and safety for all of us, Jewish people very much included.” Bend the Arc’s CEO Jamie Beran spoke at the “Jews Say No To Deportations” press conference in front of Columbia this afternoon.

I'm Jewish. I got my PhD in neuroscience from Columbia in 2014. The biomedical research isn't even on the same campus as the protests. The Joint Task Force to Combat "anti-Semitism" will go down in infamy alongside HUAC. It makes me sick.

I don't know what is more depressing to witness--Jews who think these repressive measures at Columbia University are actually justified/in our interest; or non-Jewish folks who express anger that the Trump govt is only invested in safety of Jews, as if that’s what this actually is.

Imagine sitting on a 50-billion endowment and not taking the opportunity to spearhead the defence of academic freedom in your country. Well at least we know now what these sorts of schools are all about.

I hate people who think Jewish liberation requires violent ethnonationalism. That view will actually be our downfall. Not my belief that liberation isn’t a zero sum game

J Street is proud to have joined 26 other American Jewish orgs in moving to file an amicus brief objecting to the arrest, detention and potential deportation of Rumeysa Ozturk. We cannot sit by as the administration exploits our community to advance its authoritarian agenda.

Wesleyan, Princeton, and now Harvard refusing to capitulate to Trump really makes Columbia look quite bad. A disturbing lack of credibility from one of the world's great universities.

“If those in power desire to protect Jewish students, they must recognize that we are a diverse community of all shades,” writes a coalition of Jewish students against the “invocation of Jewish safety” to “persecute, detain, and deport fellow students.” l8r.it/7u2I
