My coffee yesterday had a good representation of my expression at #IBiS2022, concentrating to use my plant ecology knowledge to learn from & about diatoms, diagenesis, isotopes & geology. It’s been an excellent conference: many thanks to the conference organisers & presenters.

If you’re against abortion, don’t get one. If you’re against contraception, don’t take any. If you’re against same-sex relationships, don’t have one. If you’re against same-sex marriage, don’t marry someone of same gender. Do not impose your beliefs & religion on all Americans.

One of my first papers was completed in cooperation with Sue Kilham and Ed TheRiot - we still don't know why there are differences in Si content between FW and marine diatoms. Her mentoring skills are legendary! Hard to believe she was on soft money at UMich.

Not only do we share having B.S. degrees from Tulane University, but also we both experienced the ravages of Hurricane Betsy. Me in Ft. Lauderdale when I was 8 years old! I have heard more about it than I remember...

A decade ago I had an idea for a #siliceousplants website, where info would be collated for those new to, or those keen to keep up with, plant silicon research. Thanks to Sarah Thorne it's a reality! Our first post is up. siliceousplants.wordpress.com

My very 1st first author paper published!!! I must say I am proud! The story of the oldest diatoms. Or are they diatoms? 🫣 read and decide for yourself! nature.com/articles/s4159…
