An important baseline dataset for us all - very concerning that the resources are not in place to ensure the measurements persist.

We can’t have ocean CDR without MRV, and we can’t have MRV without background measurements of surface ocean CO₂. SOCAT is the only public surface ocean CO₂ database and it needs funding. Ocean CDR folks, reach out to Dorothee Bakker to help. 💶

The UK has lost its clear global leadership position on climate action. It is no longer COP President, and no longer a member of the EU negotiating bloc. It invests in new coal and supports new oil/gas. Progress in tackling climate change is slow More here theccc.org.uk/publication/20…

"If we'd said it was terribly expensive to build railways, we'd have got stuck with the canals." Lord Deben, Climate Change Committee chair, tells alex thomson we need to embrace the "exciting change" of green energy which will provide jobs and protect people from climate change.

If the estimate is correct, it takes 14 billion tonnes of olivine to remove 10 billion tonnes of CO₂ from the atmosphere. This is a CDR target for 2050. We currently ship 11 billion tonnes of goods every year. Imagine shipping 14 billion tonnes of olivine on top of that.

Big news! We've launched the new website for the #WesternChannelObservatory, it's now easier than ever to utilise the open-access data from the longest marine dataset in the world. Check out the new site: westernchannelobservatory.org.uk The #WCO is a partnership between PML & MBA - Marine Biological Association.
