To put the level of demand and activity into context a little – the number of serious ambulance call outs in September was up by a fifth compared to before the pandemic.

Over the past year, colleagues in general practice delivered 324 million appointments, and a record-breaking 2.8 million people were checked for cancer following an urgent GP referral.

Our colleagues in community pharmacies are treating thousands more people for minor illnesses – over 100,000 in June — helping to support people quickly and conveniently, and ease the pressure on GPs.

Overall, our most recent figures show more NHS activity than before the pandemic. 56,000 more patients received treatment in August compared to the same month pre-pandemic, and more than two million tests and checks were carried out.

It’s vital that those who are eligible come forward for their Covid and flu vaccinations. Over 8 million people have already had their Covid booster, and everyone over 50 can now book online. nhs.uk/wintervaccinat…
