I recently spent two weeks on Australian Wildlife Conservancy's Faure Island conducting a pitfall trapping survey to monitor the island's reptiles. We had huge success, catching a large proportion of the species known on the island. This will be a thread of some of the critters we caught 🦎🧵

There are a few things we can all do that make a huge difference to biodiversity. E.g. 1) keep your cat indoors 2) stop using second generation anticoagulant rodenticides 3) retain native trees These are easy to do and make an immediate and profound difference.

The Aprasia genus is a group of small, slender, worm-like lizards in the Pygopodidae (flap-footed lizard) family, which shares a common evolutionary ancestor with geckos. They are only found in Australia, where there are 14 species. Here is every species occurring in Victoria.

After years, I finally got the location & timing right to photograph California tiger salamanders underwater as they return to seasonal ponds to breed. I believe mine are the 1st images of adult wild CTS taken underwater.
