PRISm can represent lung or extrathoracic effects. Prevalence varied by site, up to 16%. More common in women and younger people. Risk factors for PRISm in high-income settings such as obesity and 🚬 were not significant here. PRISm was associated with poor respiratory health.

Prevalence of preserved ratio impaired spirometry (PRISm) was up to 16% and associated with impaired quality of life. Risk factors included younger age, female sex, and biomass exposure. Enjoyed working on this paper with Trishul Siddharthan MD and GECo team sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Presented our research at #ERS2024 that found prolonged chronic exposure to air pollution was independently associated with increased mortality in a high-risk HIV population. We highlight the importance of improving air quality in persons with HIV ERS #ERSCongress 🫁

Our new Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology review of interventions to improve indoor air quality (IAQ). Policy and source control interventions are likely most effective to improve IAQ. Combined multilevel interventions led to improved respiratory outcomes in some studies. authors.elsevier.com/c/1jt4IKs2xHyIb

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Lung cancer is the second most prevalent cancer. Inspired by personal stories from lung cancer survivors hosted by Christine Argento. Screening is key to early diagnosis, and early diagnosis saves lives. Join the #onebreathbubblechallenge

Hot off the press CHEST® Journal: Our review and meta-analysis unpacks the prevalence, risk factors, and outcomes of Preserved Ratio Impaired Spirometry. Global prevalence of PRISm was 12% with greater prevalence in LMICs. PRISm was associated with increased risk of mortality.

We found St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire score ≥12 +/- PEF<400 (men) and <250 (women) had 91% sensitivity, 47% specificity, & NPPV 98% diagnosing COPD. Screening with SGRQ+PEF may identify those at risk for COPD in resource-limited settings when spirometry isn't available
