Tropical Storm #Dexter formed last night a few hundred miles off the coast of North Carolina. It's moving away from land and is not a threat to the US.

Just a few days into August and right on cue—tropical activity is picking up. We've got T.S. #Dexter and two other areas to watch for possible development over the next 7 days. No immediate threats to the Carolinas, but we'll keep you posted.

SOGGY STRETCH: Get the rain gear ready—Tuesday and Wednesday look quite wet. - Periods of rain likely, especially for our western counties. - Mostly light on Tue, heavier pockets possible Wed. - Clouds and rain keep temps in the 60s/70s all day.

11:00 Monday: Tropical Storm Dexter continues to churn up the western Atlantic. The storm is moving northeast at 14 mph. Maximum sustained winds remain at 45 mph, but it may strengthen a bit this week before moving into cooler waters. wxii12.com/weather

Watching western NC tonight through Wednesday for a potential flash flood threat. 1-3"+ rainfall totals are possible just east of the mountains from roughly Greenville to Statesville and surrounding areas. Stay aware if you live in a flood-prone area.

A broad area of low pressure is expected to develop near the coast of the Southeastern U.S. this week. Some gradual tropical development is possible before the system moves inland. At the moment, it has a low chance to become a tropical depression. wxii12.com/weather

Periods of rain will continue through Wednesday with a persistent northerly breeze. The combination of clouds, rain, and wind direction will keep temperatures cool. Expect temps to hover in the 60s for long periods through midweek. wxii12.com/weather
