Our government hasn't done due diligence in form of long term risk assessments to conclude or prove the safety of GMOs. We reject the colonization of our food system. youtu.be/1acXZCeaOP8?si… Nnimmo ERA/FoEN Agroecology Fund Joyce Brown AFSA oilwatchafrica

Efforts at increasing food productivity in light of current food system challenges have erroneously included the entrenchment of genetic engineering in agriculture but this is a false solution which further compounds the problems. #GMOPublicHearing #BanGMOs

GMOs have direct implications on biodiversity. Over 80% of GMOs are designed to be herbicide tolerant. This has significantly increased the use of herbicides in the USA for example. #GMOPublicHearing #BanGMOs Environment Ministry Nigeria House of Representatives National Assembly PSHEGS Nnimmo Rutendo Matinyarare

Environment Ministry Nigeria House of Representatives National Assembly PSHEGS Nnimmo Rutendo Matinyarare These herbicides do not only destroy the target weeds but also non-target organisms that are essential for soil health and overall ecosystem function. They can also run off  to contaminate drinking water sources. #BanGMOs #GMOPublicHearing Food_Affairs

Environment Ministry Nigeria House of Representatives National Assembly PSHEGS Nnimmo Rutendo Matinyarare Food_Affairs A quick case to learn from is Mexico's recent ban on genetically engineered corn. The courts said from the evidence before it, genetically engineered corn posed “the risk of imminent harm to the environment.” #GMOPublicHearing #BanGMOsinNigeria

Environment Ministry Nigeria House of Representatives National Assembly PSHEGS Nnimmo Rutendo Matinyarare Food_Affairs Farmers have complained that although GMOs may perform well in the first planting season in terms of productivity, but their productivity drastically declines in the second planting season, meaning farmers cannot replant these seeds but have to continuously purchase the seeds.

Environment Ministry Nigeria House of Representatives National Assembly PSHEGS Nnimmo Rutendo Matinyarare Food_Affairs GMOs represent an attempt at seed colonialism and loss of our heritage - forcing our farmers and by extension, consumers to depend on mostly foreign corporations for seed.#BanGMOsinNigeria #GMOPublicHearing

🚨 1/5 BREAKING: Two oil collection stations have exploded in Nigeria's Rivers State. We are in solidarity with affected communities. This is not just an accident - it's the result of decades of reckless fossil fuel extraction. oilchange.org/news/explosion…

Oil Change International (@priceofoil) 's Twitter Profile Photo

2/5 These stations were previously owned by Shell before being sold off - a common tactic by big oil companies to avoid responsibility for aging, dangerous infrastructure while local communities bear the risks. kristinareports.com/breaking-fire-…

Oil Change International (@priceofoil) 's Twitter Profile Photo

3/5 The hard truth: For 60 years, oil giants have exploited the Niger Delta. 66% of Africa's oil & gas profits go to foreign corporations like Total, Eni, ExxonMobil - while local communities bear the burden. Read our Sky’s the Limit report: oilchange.org/publications/t…

Oil Change International (@priceofoil) 's Twitter Profile Photo

4/5 This explosion comes as Nigeria plans to restart oil production in Ogoni land - despite decades of community resistance against environmental destruction and human rights violations. oilchange.org/blogs/in-solid…

Oil Change International (@priceofoil) 's Twitter Profile Photo

⚖️5/5 We demand: ✅Full investigation ✅ Company accountability ✅ End to fossil fuel expansion ✅ Just transition to renewable energy The future of Nigeria must prioritize people over profits. #OilFreeNigeria #EndFossilFuels

EACOP's partial financing reeks of desperation after years of delay. Over 43 banks and 29 (re)insurance companies the world over have ruled out the climate-wrecking project. Funding EACOP is a direct attack to the people and the planet. #StopEACOP climatechangenews.com/2025/03/28/afr…
