It may surprise you to know that Pepsi is now the most sold draught product at JD Wetherspoon pubs! 😮This was revealed recently by the pub company boss, Tim Martin. 😮😲

I always love to raise a glass to Fred Dibnah. He was a much loved character and a champion of our proud industrial heritage. The traditional Bitter, Bank Top Brewery Flat Cap was originally named Fred’s Cap. 🍻👍

Felt a little poignant visiting a local social club last night. The long established Briercliffe Social Club sadly closes on Monday. A destination that always supported local, indep. breweries. Had two pints of the exceptional Reedley Hallows Blacko Mild(4%).

It’s 18 years today since the smoking ban came into force in England. Many pubgoers are of the opinion that it was a significant contributing factor to pub closures. Do you agree?

A stunning Bank Top Brewery deep-flavoured, speciality mild, yesterday. Black as a vicar’s cassock.Fruity&sweetish aroma. Dark choc., coffee, caramel&winey notes balanced well. Hint of vanilla also identified. More chocolate & dark, stone fruit in the long bittersweet finish. 🍻

‘Pubs are vitally important’ Minister claims. What a flippant comment! This government and previous governments have no genuine care for the welfare of the public industry. Agreed? Pubs are vitally important’ Minister claims morningadvertiser.co.uk/Article/2025/0…

Five days. 260 miles driven. 40 pubs visited. 50 half-pints drunk and evaluated. It’s not easy. If it was, it wouldn't be work. The Lake District is a tricky place to get around, but I’ve now got my eight best pubs there and you can read about them in The Times and The Sunday Times on 5th October.

In 1870 there were 115,000 pubs and “beerhouses” in the UK. With an adult population of about 15 million at the time, it meant one pub for every 130 people. Fast forward to today, and the number has sunk to below 45,000, the equivalent of about one for every 1,000 adults. 😔
