CLT members, tenants and homeowners gathered today to demand the Tax Lien Sale Task Force DO ITS JOB: research and recommend a permanent END to the tax lien sale and solution for its replacement!

1/NYCCLI members disrupted the Tax Lien Sale hearing today to make the message from our communities clear: we need this task force to take seriously tax lien sale ABOLITION.

2/NYC Council security got violent with our members, who were there to peacefully protest the tax lien task force’s failure to research and recommend the potential abolition of the tax lien sale and a solution for its replacement.

3/This task force exists to explore alternatives to the tax lien sale and has a legal duty to do so. Their recommendations, which do almost nothing to address creating or preserving affordable housing, show that they all have failed in their obligation: nyc.gov/assets/finance…

4/Abolishing the tax lien sale is a matter of racial and economic justice. Our Black neighbors are six times more likely to be targeted by the tax lien sale. Policies like this are why Black families are leaving the city in droves. This must be stopped immediately!

Today, we called on NYC to abolish the predatory tax lien sale that continues to extract from Black and brown communities while enriching private investors. Shut. It. Down.
