We need serious emergency measures implemented ASAP to recover the Great Salt Lake in the short term. And in the slightly longer term we need to transition off fossil fuels...greenhouse gas pollution makes these problems much harder to solve.

It’s really relaxing to spend a few hours each week outside of my dissertation dungeon, cheering folks on as they get their sweat on. Cultivate who you are outside of grad school. šŸ’™ And Logan folks—come 🄊 with me!

Several authors, including Trisha Atwood, were declared National Winners of the Frontier Prize for their paper demonstrating the enormous potential for oceans and coasts to contribute to carbon sequestration (blue carbon)!

I had such an amazing time with Jaron Adkins, Ryan Choi, @TreelorSaunders, and Lindsay Miller investigating carbon-climate feedbacks on the Alaskan Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. Amazing team! (with Karen Beard and Trisha Atwood, Utah State University)

Excited to share my new paper, out in Environmental Research Letters last week, sharing a new, 2500-year-long fire-history reconstruction from the U.S. Northern Rockies, providing a long-term context for fire activity of recent years and decades.🧵 iopscience.iop.org/article/10.108…

Paper published!🄳In it, we demonstrate how adopting center-pivot sprinkler irrigation over the last 40 years reduced diversion of streamflow for irrigation from the Henry’s Fork—but also reduced flow of groundwater back into the river. Full article: frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…

ā€œIf we’re adding the entire aviation fleet’s worth of greenhouse gas emissions into the ocean every year just from trawling, that’s going to reduce the ability of the ocean to take up more atmospheric CO2,ā€ Trisha Atwood told Vox. tinyurl.com/2vftcd6f

Research from Jaron Adkins, Trisha Atwood, and a host of other WATS scientists has found that precipitation patterns and plant growth drive animal diversity, and that knowledge can play into how we manage species in the age of climate change. tinyurl.com/tvxvhjfn
