A HUGE welcome to the Newcastle University Engineering at Newcastle GEMS program! 23 students along with their professor, Dr. Jean Hall, have just arrived in Lobitos. During their placement with us, they will build two solar panel systems and two improved cookstoves. We can't wait!

The Civil Engineering Global Engineering Module students from Newcastle University Engineering at Newcastle are building two improved cookstoves that will serve as healthy alternatives to open flame cooking. We are so excited to be training the sustainability leaders of the future!

The students from Newcastle University Engineering at Newcastle are working on a solar panel system that will give the recipients light, the ability to refrigerate their food, and the children will not need to seek internet connection elsewhere in order to complete their homework!

First improved cookstove complete! The Newcastle University Engineering at Newcastle Global Engineering course successfully built an energy-efficient cookstove. The recipients of this cookstove will no longer have to rely on an open flame kitchen, so they will breathe cleaner air everyday!

We cooked this delicious meal with only 5 pieces of timber! The new oven and cookstove require far less wood than the previous cooking method of this household, so these new appliances will help reduce the demand for logging of scarce native trees in the local area.
