It is beyond my comprehension, I said in my address to the United Nations General Assembly, that there exist in the world today societies of human beings where little girls and women are not allowed to laugh or speak in public or go to school.

I had a very informative meeting with PM of Palestine Mohammed Mustafa, along with PM of Iceland. The task ahead is enormous, to provide humanitarian assistance, rebuild Gaza and work towards peace and stability through a two state solution.

Addressing UN Human Rights Council on the 3-year anniversary of Russia‘s full-scale invasion of Ukraine – a clear sign of a dangerous trend of disregard for int‘l law. As a member of #HRC, 🇮🇸 will stand up for human rights & freedoms of all, children’s rights, gender equality & rights of LGBTI.

Honour to address UN Human Rights Council on behalf of the Nordic-Baltic countries at the #HRC58 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration. Gender equality must remain a priority not just for long-term peace and economic well-being but to secure human rights of all.

During our membership at UN Human Rights Council, Iceland is committed to working constructively with civil society. Today I had an informative dialogue with CSO representatives in Geneva on protecting and promoting human rights for all, including gender equality and rights of LGBTQI+ persons.

Today, Iceland celebrates Women’s Rights Day, commemorating June 19, 1915, when women over 40 won the right to vote and stand for parliament. We honor their legacy by continuing the fight: against gender-based violence, for equal pay, and for equality for all women and girls.

As I leave for New York to attend United Nations’s two-state solution conference some welcome news that Israel has paused military activities in Gaza to allow food to reach starving Palestinians. It is not enough, a full ceasefire is needed & an end to this shameful, man-made famine
