#TIL Edgar Pask repeatedly anaesthetized and submerged himself to improve life jackets so we don’t have to. Good read on a really impressively scary series of experiments during WWII: rb.gy/0crg7k #Drowning #SwimSafe

Fun and insightful week with Divers Alert Network doing their field researcher operations course and learning to measure post-dive venous gas emboli. Hopefully some research outputs to come from this in the near future! #Bubbles #HyperbaricMedicine #DivingPhysiology

Want to be sponsored to do life-changing research? We have a PhD project available where multi-modality imaging from patients with pulmonary hypertension will be used to develop coupled computational models of the heart and lungs. bit.ly/3oWxZet

We developed a new method to track nitrogen movement through the body to better understand and prevent decompression sickness. An early PET image of radioactive gas in the supine lung is on exhibition at The Nat until Oct 24. Looking forward to the scientific publications to come!

We recently published a computational model exploring the role of lymphatics in pulmonary fluid balance. Hopefully in the future the model can be used to help predict and prognose pulmonary edema. journals.physiology.org/doi/abs/10.115… #PulmonaryEdema #Lymphatics ABI

Teams have unloaded the #LunaTwins from the Orion Spacecraft spacecraft following the #Artemis I mission. These two female manikins, Helga and Zohar, measured radiation levels to potentially reduce exposure during future missions with astronauts: go.nasa.gov/3XBH8Zq

Headed to Long Beach for the #APS2023 Summit. I will be presenting some of our work that has looked at using radiolabeled nitrogen-13 to track gaseous nitrogen movement in conditions simulating SCUBA diving and spacewalks. Poster 595, Saturday 22nd at 5pm. American Physiological Society

While hyperbaric oxygen could be feasibly implemented in spacecraft, its protective effects against ionizing radiation are unclear as it may help some body regions but could radiosensitizer others. sciencedirect.com/science/articl… #SpaceMedicine #HyperbaricOxygen #SpaceRadiation

🌌🚀 Our work shows Nitrogen-13 studies could optimise the effectiveness of prebreathe procedures before extravehicular activity. As Lunar and Martian missions approach, enhanced protocols could boost productivity & reduce health risks. #SpaceMedicine #EVA frontiersin.org/journals/physi…
