The wind speed measurements in the ocean come from the EirOOS: Irish Ocean Observing System Irish Ocean Observing System. 🌬 95km/h off Cork at M3 buoy. See the latest readings on digitalocean.ie

🌊 #IMDBON buoys: M3 so far has seen the highest max wave heights during #StormÉowyn at 20m. M3 is on the south west coast off Kerry. The other buoys tracking heights of around 15m. We hope you made it through the night ok and monitor Met Éireann warnings. Marine Institute

Carlow Weather Thanks for sharing the images, it is a marine buoy that is usually moored in a fixed location. This one came adrift during Storm Bert, and then we lost contact with it during Storm Darragh. Good of Éowyn to return it for us! Irish Lights are kindly securing it to prevent it

“Data buoys withstood intense weather, remained operational and continued delivering crucial data” Have a read on The Irish Times about the Marine Institute #imdbon data buoys’ performance during #StormEowyn! Met Éireann irishtimes.com/environment/cl….

✅ Glider Deployment ❓Mission: To further our understanding of ocean currents & their formation 📍Where: launched off Erris Head, the #glider will travel over the shallow continental shelf waters to deeper continental slope water collecting important #OceanData Marine Institute

📰New research undertaken by Ollscoil na Gaillimhe | University of Galway using the Irish National Tide Gauge #INTGN at Port of Galway operated by Marine Institute and 2 of Office of Public Works gauges in the west of Ireland. Studies like this show the importance this data provides for predictions of future storm impacts.

We’re enjoying the rare days of sunshine on deck during the #CE25007 survey and gave a short intro to Marine Institute M6 #IMDBON buoy to 3 students on board. Doreen will use data from M6 & South Rockall Mooring for her MSc project Zdenek, our technician, shows them the CTD in hull.

New Vs. Old The M6 #IMDBON Marine Institute data buoy was successfully swapped out on the #CE25007 survey. This buoy will be out for 1 year providing essential data for Met Éireann along with 3 subsurface CTD microCATs to 750m depth for #oceanops

Only a few days left of the survey, enjoying the last few days of these sunsets, especially with the M6 on board😍 the 4pm-4am shift has its perks. EirOOS: Irish Ocean Observing System Marine Institute Marine Institute Research Vessels
