Hard to believe there's now an entire generation that has never experienced Australia failing to qualify for the World Cup. That was totally unfathomable growing up. Embrace it. The biggest show on earth. #socceroos

Only eight players in this picture haven’t played A-League football. And of those eight, three spent time in an AL academy. Finally, all, bar two or three came through NPL. Homegrown Aussie players. World Cup bound. Good enough. Go on you Socceroos 🇦🇺⚽️

The Roos now sit in 24th in the FIFA rankings. This is just one spot outside of being in pot 2. We need some carefully selected friendlies, as well as praying on some big European nations downfall.

This is why I like the Club World Cup conceptually. These sort of clubs deserve an opportunity to compete with the big dogs in Europe for something meaningful. It will be the highlight of so many people’s lives and careers.

When you see the consistency of the crowds + atmosphere + vibrancy + results provided by South American teams at this Club World Cup, find it increasingly hard to justify fifa paying Europe’s top clubs over double the amount in participation money

Flamengo’s win over Chelsea means South American teams are unbeaten in nine group matches at the Club World Cup. At ESPN FC, I wrote about why this tournament matters so much to the clubs & their fans. espn.com/soccer/story/_…

Today is a historic day for Spanish football. Either LALIGA will welcome a first if Club Deportivo Mirandés does good on the home leg of the promotion playoff or Real Oviedo returns to the top tier after a quarter of a century. After being declared dead, saved by their own and the world.

Cazorla back in Jan to The Athletic | Football "Getting promoted would surpass everything else in my career, for the feeling in my heart since I was a kid. It’d be the most beautiful trophy.” nytimes.com/athletic/60638… He's scored in both legs as Oviedo have won the playoff final 🥲

What must surely be the final fixture of this European season has surely just given us it’s very best story. A quarter century on from when they left La Liga & nearly died a thousand deaths, Real Oviedo are back in the top tier. Will probably take a week to write but

If you haven’t yet watched my documentary “Finding the First South Asian Lioness” then why not watch it today! Giving you a look at the history of South Asian migration to the UK, women’s football, and how they intersect! 🧡

Real Oviedo: The club that refused to die and their fairytale return to glory. A club torn apart by war, abandoned by politicians, and nearly lost forever. But Carbayones were never gonna let that happen. 🧵THREAD

No doubt this result will now make its way into the Superclásico rivalry. Just how Boca teases River with the ghost of the ‘B’ (3nd div) expect every Superclásico at El Monumental from now on to involve a sea of Auckland City kits, Banners & TIFO’s

In the early to mid-2000s, if you were curious about the world, SBS really was incredible to have free access to. It could open your eyes in a way nowhere else could (pre-video taking over the internet). I have such fond memories of that time, and very grateful it existed.

Feeling for the many great people who have worked at Optus Sport over the last decade. They produced some fantastic content and gave opportunities to numerous broadcasters and former players turned pundits. Should be super proud of everything that was achieved.

It should be mandatory that NPL clubs not only make their own olive oil like this, but sell it. Can’t believe we’re not maxxing that revenue stream as a game.
