Since January we've witnessed attempt after attempt to destroy the ability of federal agencies to deliver services to the public.   We cannot allow President Trump and the so-called Department of Government Efficiency to do the same to the Postal Service.

"Godfather of Go-Go" Chuck Brown loved DC. He gifted DC with its signature musical sound and embraced the cause of #DCStatehood, performing a historic concert in 2010 at the Capitol.   I introduced a bill to rename a post office in NE after him.   Statement:

The federal government has no business in local DC’s land-use policies and decisions. I introduced my bill to remove the authority of the National Capital Planning Commission to review or approve the development of DC-owned property. Statement: bit.ly/44IeHPO

Today is the 61st anniversary of a dream come true, the Civil Rights Act being signed into law. As a lifelong civil rights advocate, July 2nd will always hold a special place in my heart, the culmination of hard work and perseverance, but the job is far from finished.

It is ironic that D.C. experiences taxation without representation, which happens to be one of the main reasons our nation declared independence from Britain. MORE: bit.ly/44q4aHK

Land-use policies are quintessentially local, yet the Commission of Fine Arts, whose members are appointed by the President, has authority over property in DC.   I introduced my bill to remove this anti-home rule authority from the federal Commission.   More:

Extreme heat is especially dangerous for those who work outdoors, and DC is no stranger to extreme heat. Whether you’re outside for work or for leisure, please take steps to protect yourself.

I've heard from constituents concerned that the "Big Beautiful Bill" passed last week cut DCTAG – it didn't.   Although the president's fiscal year 2026 budget did propose eliminating funding for DCTAG, rest assured that I'll do everything in my power to defend the program.

On this date in 1868 the 14th Amendment was ratified, declaring all Americans worthy of equal protection.   I worked to ensure it applied to everybody in the Civil Rights movement.   In Congress I've stood for full equality for DC residents, which only #DCStatehood can confer.

President Trump's comments implied that his White House could run DC "flawlessly," but recent and current events indicate that his administration has great difficulty doing the actual work of governing.   To Republicans calling for a takeover: DC can run DC, thank you.

My bill authorizing a memorial for women who worked on the home front during WWII, inspired by then 10-year old constituent Raya Kenney, was made law in 2022 — but the story started long before and continues even today.   Learn more: bit.ly/4nEbTKW

Like every other jurisdiction in the US, DC should be free to set its own local land-use policies.   I introduced my bill to allow DC to appoint all members of the DC Board of Zoning Adjustment.   More: bit.ly/4lTOfIW

Happy 235th Birthday, DC! On 7/16/1790 the permanent location of our nation’s capital was established when the Residence Act became law. Fun Fact: James Madison was one of the first advocates for DC home rule. DC residents have been fighting for local autonomy for 200+ years.

DC's Union Station is a vital transportation hub, historically welcoming more travelers/day than DCA or Dulles, but hasn't been renovated since the 1980s.   I questioned Transportation Sec. Duffy today about the admin's position on the Union Station Expansion Project and how it

Aircraft transponders broadcast location information that saves lives, yet the helicopter that collided with a plane near DCA in January had its turned off.   Today I asked Sec. Duffy about the overly broad exceptions to the rule requiring helicopter transponder use near DCA.

Families shouldn’t be punished for going green. My bill, the Sunshine on Solar Lending Act, would protect Texas families and their pocketbooks from hidden fees when making the switch to solar.
