The good new is that we can prevent CKD development after AKI by blocking repeated polyploidization of tubular cells and avoiding that these cells become senescent and drive CKD nature.com/articles/s4146…

In the kidney polyploid cells are frequently mononucleated. If only DNA content is measured they can be mistaken as G2/M cells. With cycle markers such as PCNA or Ki67 they may seem proliferating cells. Particular techniques are needed to detect them doi.org/10.1016/j.kint…
