In 1642, Rupert demanded £2,000 from the diffident Mayor of Leicester & warned he would enforce the request. On Tuesday 27 May I'll be talking about this and other aspects of Rupert's life where that summons was likely discussed in 1642! Leicester Guildhall. Tickets:

Another of Leicestershire’s ‘hidden gem’ churches is the impressive church of St Peter at Kirby Bellars near Melton. Hidden down a leafy lane off the main A607 road, the church’s tower and spire with three lucernes on each face is particularly impressive. 1/2 🧵

The church’s south aisle also contains an alabaster effigy to Sir Roger Beler II, after whom the village was (partially) named. 2/2 🧵 Photos: Leicestershire Churches
