Bringing this as far up to the surface as I can! This is also a DEI issue (not mentioned in the article), a mental health issue (not this either), and a community issue. Professional societies and unions: Help! science.sciencemag.org/content/370/65…

This is an incredible example of how a faculty member makes a real impact-but in ways not measured by traditional tenure guidelines. How can we change this?

Elizabeth Thomas Great question. Consider as well the instances when years of female faculty research, civic & community engagement brings in millions, but because of sexism & other dynamics, the institution tries to attribute this work to male colleagues....

Today is National #VoteEarlyDay and you can do just that starting at noon because today is the first day of #EarlyVoting in NYS. There are 37 locations across Erie County and you can #Vote at any one of the locations. All will be open until 6 pm today and then reopen tomorrow.

Just a reminder, you can #VoteEarly at ANY of the 37 locations across Erie County. You do NOT need to vote in your town/city. Also, if you are in line at 6 STAY IN LINE, you must be allowed to vote. #ErieVotes #VoteEarlyDay #Election2020

Today a maximum temperature of 9.4 °C was recorded at our new weather station in Reindalspasset in the high #Arctic Svalbard (78°N). It is the highest temperature officially recorded in #Svalbard during November

I'm really looking forward to sharing some of my group's and NSF Snow On Ice/GRate's latest findings about Holocene climate on Greenland Syracuse University Earth & Environmental Sciences today. And to geeking out about isotopes and paleoclimate with like-minded science friends. :) Thanks for the invite, Tripti!

In the 1960s, U.S. Army scientists pulled up a tube of dirt from underneath the #Greenland Ice Sheet. Decades later, UB Dept. of Geology researcher Elizabeth Thomas (Elizabeth Thomas) is co-author of a study led by University of Vermont that looks at this sediment in detail: buffalo.edu/news/releases/…

New research from my lab, University of Vermont, and many others out in PNASNews this week! We found & described ancient soils, including plant fossils, preserved under the Greenland Ice Sheet!

Some history of Arctic science UBuffalo: Chet Langway led some of the first ice core drilling expeditions and was prof UB Dept. of Geology...he collected the sediment samples that my #UBPaleoclimate team analyzed 60 years later!

So excited to share a study led by Allison Cluett in PNASNews! Greenland terrestrial summers were not exceptionally warm during long #superinterglacial #MIS11, but #MIS5e was short and hot. The ice sheet stuck around despite the MIS5e heat, but probably melted away in MIS11.
