Also #smashingstereotypes Ellen Heimpel is currently studying monodominant forests in the Congo Basin. 80% of the trees in certain forests in central Africa belong to one species, Gilbertiodendron dewevrei and predicting their contraction or expansion will be vital in the future.

Come on down to Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh for our Shipping Roots late event. Jack Baker 🌵🐾, @jess_rickenback Ellen Heimpel and I will be chatting science and decolonisation in botanic collections #Science #plants

Our paper on monodominant Gilbertiodendron dewevrei forest in the western Congo basin and its floristic and structural differences from mixed forest is now out! 🌱 Huge thanks to the co-authors, and to WCS Congo and E4 Doctoral Training Partnership for supporting my fieldwork! Check it out here 👇
