See you at recruitment weekend! (video credit Cade MacAllister)

Congratulations to 2nd year Hyung Joo Kim Hyung Joo Kim on passing his Thesis Background Exam!

WIC was honored to host @sarah_reisman for our Organic Reactions seminar! An insightful seminar on navigating and building an academic career, followed by student presentations, and ending with a thrilling total synthesis presentation for the organic path students and faculty.

Thinking about chemistry opportunities for women? Join UW-Madison Women in Chemistry for a special Careers in Academia panel discussion featuring Desiree Bates, Helen Blackwell, Cathy Clewett, Lingjun Li, and Micheline Soley. Monday, May 1, 2 p.m. Union South #steminist #UWMadisonchem

Thank you to UW-Madison Chemistry students for joining our second annual UW–Madison + GSK Symposium! Prof. Levin from The University of Chicago discussed single atom skeletal editing. Scientists, Nikki Goodwin and Heather Hintz discussed #drugdiscovery, #collaborations, and #chemistry careers.

Congratulations to Matt Genzink, Matthew Rossler, and Herman on their publication in J. Am. Chem. Soc. today on the synthesis of truxinate natural products enabled by enantioselective [2+2] photocycloadditions! pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.10…

I'm so excited my first first author work is out in J. Am. Chem. Soc. today! It was great working with Hyung Joo and Matt. I'm really proud of the final story we were able to tell, and all of the (very) serendipitous observations along the way that pushed the project forward.

New paper! Ellie Plachinski, Hyung Joo, and Matt Genzink have a solid-state photochemistry approach to the truxillate family of natural products in J. Am. Chem. Soc. today. pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ja…

Another new paper this week: Jesse, @tahoefiala, Wesley Swords, and Yerin report the first asymmetric catalytic Paternò–Büchi reaction in J. Am. Chem. Soc. today. A great collab with Kent Meyer in the Wright lab UW-Madison Chemistry was critical for this one to work. pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ja…

Excited to present the first paper from the Park group, published today in Science Magazine! We found a user-friendly, mild reaction conditions for exchanging an oxygen in heterocycles with nitrogen groups. Congrats Donghyeon, Jaehyun, and the team! science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Big shout out to the Yoon group Yoon Group for an insightful overview, highlighted in the Perspective. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Our undergrad Rodrigo wondered if we could replace the bespoke chiral acid used in our recent asymmetric photochemistry with commercial (S)-TRIP. His protocol for enantioselective truxinate synthesis on 2-gram scale just dropped on Organic Syntheses: orgsyn.org/demo.aspx?prep…

It was great being able to work with a Zoe, a phenomenal graduate student, and Rodrigo, a superstar undergraduate on this paper, as well as our great industry collaborators and the Syncat Center! A shockingly fast and fun project that I'm thrilled is out J. Am. Chem. Soc. today!
