#C3NJournalClub We had initially considered “failure to resolve” AKI as a potential secondary outcome as well, but it is harder to establish an association between a short exposure window and longer-term outcomes.
#C3NJournalClub Looking at just the children exposed to Pip Tazo, those who developed AKI still had worse outcomes (increased mortality, need for RRT and prolonged LOS – see Table 5) suggesting there is a “real” nephrotoxicity associated with Pip Tazo.
Overwhelmingly, evidence has shown the increased risk of mortality, RRT and longer lengths of stay in patients with AKI – and this has been shown in a variety of populations including both critically ill and non-critically ill children. No surprises here #C3NJournalClub
