When people ask how I'm doing I tend to say I'm ok but I'm not. I think I will start saying "Well I'm a trans person witnessing an immense wave of hate & state-sanctioned restrictions on things that help trans ppl survive this hellscape, while few else recognize this crisis.."

Minnesota passes the Trans Refuge bill! Incredible. It allows parents to know their trans kids won't get taken out of the state to be detransitioned, it will prevent other states from subpoenaing gender care in Minnesota. Congratulations Minnesota.

Horrifying. Florida passes HB1521. It bans trans people from bathrooms and forces them to leave if cis people point them out. Connecting flight in Florida? Convention? On Vacation? Visiting family? Trans people can come under arrest for using the bathroom. It goes to the gov.

I just spent $400 for a conference registration. The financial burden to present research to only a handful of people seems increasingly unjustifiable to me. This is yet another way that academia harshly punishes students from low SES and we need to do better.

On this AAPI month, I'm going through the same song and dance of whether NSF/NIH recognizes Filipinos as URMs (e.g., Pacific Islanders) or considers them well-represented in biomedical research (e.g., Asian-American).

Florida Gov. DeSantis recently signed a law mandating Florida public schools to teach AAPI history. At first glance, this seems like a necessary step toward combatting the persistent erasure of AAPI history & making our struggles and activism throughout U.S. history more visible.
