Very excited (but mostly relieved) to have completed my first mito prep in Exeter today👩‍🔬. I've spent several months setting everything up here for growing C.elegans and isolating their mitochondria!🪱🧪

Now peer-reviewed and accepted in J Cell Science: we show that loss of NDUF-11 affects Complex I and its #supercomplexes and induces profound alterations in #mitochondria ultrastructure in worms. Amazing #CryoEM work by Emma Buzzard and @the_gold_lab! journals.biologists.com/jcs/article/do…

Had a fantastic few days at #ELRIG #RI2023 exploring the research and opportunities that exist in industry as I enter the final year of my PhD. I was delighted to win the prize for best ECP poster at the event!

Thoroughly enjoyed attending SWSBC earlier this week, where I excitingly won the prize for best talk (!!) It was great meeting others in the structural biology field from the south west 👩‍🔬

I had the opportunity to attend a fantastic workshop on career development for young scientists run by hpf consulting a few weeks back. A great chance to practise interview technique, elevator pitches, and unpack core values to align to potential job roles.

It was a pleasure to share my research with some Year 10 students, and show them what C. elegans look like under the microscope!

My 1st first-author paper is officially published in #biochemj ! 🤩 doi.org/10.1042/BCJ202… In this work, we reveal a novel ATP synthase dimer structure in C. elegans, and look at the consequence of dimer angle on mitochondrial morphology using cryo-ET. @the_gold_lab
